Japanese Foundation: Structure

The Japanese Foundation deck is broken into four parts.

[Done] The first 500 sentences are designed to introduce basic vocabulary and sentence structure. Collectively, the sentences also introduce the 400 most common vocabulary lemmas and 50 simple grammatical lemmas. We've personally checked them all, but we're nonetheless working on getting them professionally verified by a proofreader. Native audio will be coming as a paid add-on later this month.

[In Beta] The next 1500 sentences are designed to solidify grammar. Each sentence continues to introduce one new vocabulary item. Where possible, new vocabulary is grouped by kanji, to make chunking easier. The sentences begin to get longer, and cover more complex grammar.

いまはそんな話をしてる場合じゃないんだ。

覚えていないけれど、たぶんクラスのみんなに失礼なことをした。

まだ、信じられないというように、ひとりの騎士が不思議そうにつぶやいた。

冬の、つめたい空気の中で、いつもより強く匂いをはなっていた。

今までずっときみが操縦するのを観察してきたから、わたしにだって操縦できるさ。

[In Development] The next 300 sentences, indexed 2000 and 2300, provide a smooth transition to monolingual learning. The sentences themselves are taken from dictionaries, and gradually introduce the notoriously difficult "dictionary words." These sentences are designed to give you practice reading and interpreting definitions.

[Future] The final 7700 sentences are designed to teach vocab and provide practice volume. Sentences continue to introduce one new vocab item each. There are no English translations, to encourage the use of a monolingual dictionary.
